The Asians Never Attacked America

How nerve wracking it was for the right during the Vietnam War era. There was the strong conviction that if the forces of Ho Chi Minh were not repulsed then it was only a question of time before those forces invaded and occupied the United States through relying on sheer statistical superiority.

Lyndon B. Johnson was one of the craftiest legislative leaders in American history. His ability to shrewdly dicker and make a minimum wage law or Medicare was a thing of great natural beauty.

The inherent Johnson tragedy lay in the fact that when he assumed the presidency he began making decisions in the realm of war and peace for which he was profoundly ill suited. The Gulf of Tonkin was rigged to display North Vietnamese animus toward the U.S. that did not exist in reality.

An astute French historian and political scientist named Jean Lacouture told all that were willing to read and listen that the Vietnamese independent movement was strongly embraced by Ho Chi Minh's father. Ho Chi Minh told any Americans willing to read or listen that his sturdy admiration for George Washington stemmed from that great general's fight for independence from British rule whereas he and other Vietnamese wished to end foreign dominance as well.

The New World Order propaganda was so successful in the case of President Johnson that he stated his paranoiac fears in recordings that were unearthed and played as well as committed to paper by historian Michael Beschloss. To Johnson the issue was simple.

If America did not prevail in Southeast Asia then it was only a question of time until their forces overwhelmed the U.S. and raped America's wives and daughters.

The reality was stated by Noam Chomsky and others in the anti-war movement. After all the smoke cleared the very corporate sector freezing in its collective boots over a preeminent Asia would be achieving grand profits in a new united Vietnam. This is what is now occurring in Vietnam.

With all the strident voices of the pro-Vietnam War forces some fundamental logical holes were never filled. It was one thing for China to stand off forces invading their own nation in a land war. Even General Douglas MacArthur recognized that reality and urged against confronting China in a land war. Regrettably he advocated unleashing America's nuclear weaponry.

The cry went up from panicky Vietnam War hawks that if the Communists were not stopped in Vietnam then it was only time before they invaded San Francisco Harbor. This presumed a strong sea assault by Chinese and presumably other Communist forces that would eventuate with a successful attack on American soil.

Let us now turn back the clock. Those who attacked this theory, erroneous and ultimately harmful as it was, had their patriotism called into question by many. Others were content to resort to allegations of cowardice or extreme naiveté.

All of this happened almost one full generation before a Tea Party or Sarah Palin.
